Week #57– Concórdia – Episode #8 - Hype

What´s up everyone!? This week was for sure the most hype week of the transfer so far.  Elder Sanchez and I are working really well together and having a great time.

This week we had Conference with President in Lages which is a city  approx 5 hours from where I am. The bus picked us up at 2am on Wednesday and we got there at 7am. I didn´t sleep for a second on the ride because I was catching up with other missionaries that I hadn´t seen for a while. Conference was super good and I always leave with more motivation to work. We headed out at about 3pm and got home at 8. Stayed up 40 hours straight! haha first all nighter in the mish. Definitely one for the books.

Saturday we had Jacir´s and Tailon´s baptism! It was so awesome and the Spirit was really strong. I got to baptize Tailon and confirm Jacir on Sunday. Jacir is the father of his family and he was the only one who hadn´t been baptized. When Bishop was talking at the baptism, he gave him and his family the goal to be sealed on Septemer 29 next year because that´s when they will be renting a bus to go to the temple. So awesome.

I remember when I was going to this area and everyone was saying how it was a horrible area and I was bummed. But we have been praying for miracles and this area is on fire as my boy Elder Hoogland would say. We have 7 more on date for October and we are super pumped! I know that if we ask the Lord for miracles and do our part He will do His.

I love you all so much!! Don´t forget to watch General Conference on Saturday and Sunday!!

Week #56– Concórdia – Episode #7 - E aí galera

What´s up everyone? Another fast week!

So on Tuesday at noon we had to go to Florianópolis again so that Elder Sanchez could renew his Visa.  It was a nice 11 hour bus ride and I learned how to do the 4x4 Rubik’s cube which was a great time. Wednesday night I got to visit Alessandro and Vanessa who are a family from my last ward in Floripa. He was less active and she will get baptized when they get married in November. I was so incredibly feliz to see them.  I feel so at home with that family.

Thursday afternoon we flew back to Chapecó. The 45 min. plane ride was better than the 11 hour bus ride but at the end it got super windy and I was pretty ready to throw up haha.

So pretty much we just had Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to work this week but we made the best of it.  On Friday we were trying to find a new family to teach and we were walking up this main street and I saw this small house in between/behind some stores and we felt like we should go there. We went and a lady answered the door with her kids and we barely even said anything before she said we could come in. We taught the Restoration and they accepted our message and want to go to church. Anyway it was a cool experience following the promptings of the Spirit.

This Saturday Jacir and Tailon will be baptized! We are super excite!

Something that stood out to me this week during Sacrament Meeting was when a member giving a talk about the love that God has for us said ´´Even if God had to send His son for just one person to be saved, He would send Him.´´ I can´t imagine how hard it would be to let someone suffer as much as Christ did for us. I know that God´s love for us is infinite and incomprehensible.

Have a great week! Love you all!!

Week #55– Concórdia – Episode #6 - HILLS!

This week has been a long and tiring one. We walked sooo much and these hills are starting to get to me haha. It´s all good though. This week I have learned a little more what it´s really like to take upon ourselves the name of Christ. There are a few people in this area that really don´t like the church and whenever they see us they scream bloody murder at us haha. It´s a pretty great experience.

I really love Acts 5 which says:

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 ¶ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Peter and John were beaten and arrested for preaching but they walked away happily because they were worthy to suffer as a representative of Christ. That is so incredible to me and has helped me so much. I´m so thankful for this opportunity I have. Also all that are members of the church made this covenant to take upon us the name of Christ. Remember to represent Him in every way possible!

Our investigators are still doing great but we had to push back Jacir´s baptism to the 23rd. We picked up some referral´s from the youth this week as well which I am really excited about.

Elder Sanchez and I are getting along great and I am learning a bunch with him.

Love you all so much!!

Week #54– Concórdia – Episode #5 - BEST DAY EVER!

Another incredibly incredible week in the mish. I don´t really remember the whole week but the highlights are what count.

So on Wednesday we visited Ana and her kids Ruan and Carlos. We followed up with them and they said they loved church. Ana also told us how she received such a strong answer to her prayers. When she asked the Lord if her family could be together forever, she felt a strong burning in her chest. She was so happy. We put them on date for Oct. 7! Now we have 5 on date for this transfer!!

On Thursday we got the transfer calls and Elder Nobre was transferred to Pato Branco to be Zone Leader. I was kinda bummed, but it is what it is. Elder Sanchez is my new comp. He is from Mexico and he is a really good guy.

On Friday we went to Florianópolis... BY PLANE!! haha so sick. We left from the airport in Chapecó (that is the city of that soccer team that died in the plane crash). I think we were the first missionaries to fly in this mission! 50 minute plane ride was so much better than a 10 hour bus ride.

Saturday I got to go to Farah, Junior, Jp, Helena, and Gabriela´s baptism!! One of the best days of the mish for sure!! 10 people dressed in white was so beautiful. I got to baptize Gabriela and the Spirit was so strong and Sunday I got to confirm her as well. This family is sooo incredible and has such a huge future in the church. All 3 kids want to serve a mission! I love them so much. Also making a come back to Rio Tavares was awesome. So good to see those people.

Sunday afternoon we flew back to Chapecó and I got my new companion, Elder Sanchez. I´m excited to go to work with him this week! Love you all!
